From practicing on a piano in a black church to prepare for his senior recital to the black church congregation attending his concert at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music during the 1970s,  Jon Jang performs a solo piano performance and talks about how he got into music and how music got into him.  Jon Jang started piano study at the age of 19. Two years later, he applied to music schools in New York and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. He was accepted to all of the schools and chose Oberlin. Saxophonist Hitomi Oba will join Mr. Jang in the second half of the program.

Event parking in UCLA Lot 4, Sunset Blvd. and Westwood Plaza.

Presented by the Friends of Jazz at UCLA, a Support Group of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and funded by the Ralph Ehrenpreis Memorial Performance Fund
