What is Hichiriki?

Hichiriki is a double-reed instrument (like oboe) used in Japanese Gagaku court music.  It plays the main melody, together with ryuteki (transverse flute).  It has particularly nasal timbre.

  • Body: Length ca. 18cm;
  • Diameter 1cm (at end) to 1.5cm.
  • Reed (bamboo): ca. 5.5cm
