UPPER DIVISION REQUIREMENTS - ETHNOMUSICOLOGY CONCENTRATION, 52 units
(One of Two Concentrations: Ethnomusicology or Jazz Studies)

Group A:
All of the following: (12 units) Open to students who have completed 10ABC and 20ABC

180 Analysis of Traditional Music (4 units)
175 or 181 Sociology of Music or Anthropology of Music (4 units)
183 Study of Ethnomusicology (4 units)

Group B:
Seven courses selected from the following (minimum of 28 units):

105 through 121, M131 through 174, C176, C178, C179, C182, 188, 190 through 199

Group C:
Six courses selected from the following: (12 units)

161A-Z or 162 Advanced World Music Performance Organizations (2 units) or Advanced Private Instruction in Music (2 units)

Total Units Required for Major- Ethnomusicology Concentration 91 units

M110A or 110B African American Musical Heritage (4 units)
M111 Ellingtonia (4 units)
120A & B Development of Jazz (4 units each)
127 Jazz Keyboard Harmony (1 unit)
129A, B, and C Jazz Theory and Improvisation (2 units each)
180 or 181 Analysis of Traditional Music (4 units) or Anthropology of Music (4 units)

Group B:
Six courses in each of the following (24 units):

171 Instruction in Advanced Jazz Performance (2 units each)
177 Jazz Combo (2 units each)

Group C:
Three courses selected from the following (12 units):

105 through 121, M131 through 174, C176, C178, C179, C182, 183, 188, 190 through 199

Total Units Required for Major- Jazz Concentraton 102 units
