James Roberson, a Grammy-nominated producer and choir director, is the founder and president of JDI Records, one of the fastest growing gospel record labels in the world. Several of his albums have also been nominated for Stellar Awards, gospel music's highest honor, and one has won a Billboard Award. As a producer and songwriter, he has worked with a wide variety of well-known artists, including Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon, as well as gospel greats Kirk Franklin and Dr. Margaret Pleasant Douroux. JDI's roster includes Norman Hutchins, Chester D. T. Baldwin, DeNetria Champ, and others. Roberson is the recipient of numerous grants, including one from the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission for Rebuild/Rejoice!, a chorus of Korean and African-American youth he formed in response to the civil unrest following the Rodney King verdicts. A graduate of the Grove School of Music, with a specialization in vocal studies, he has been on the faculty at UCLA for the past eight years. In addition, he is director of UCLA's award-winning gospel choir.
