Eddie S. Meadows is professor emeritus of ethnomusicology and jazz studies and former graduate advisor at the School of Music and Dance, San Diego State University (SDSU). He has held visiting professorships at the University of Ghana, Michigan State University (Martin Luther King Visiting Scholar), UCLA, and the University of California, Berkeley. From January to June of 2007, Dr. Meadows was a visiting professor of Jazz Studies at USC, and he was an adjunct professor of jazz at USC from 2007 to 2009.

His publications include the following books: Jazz Scholarship and Pedagogy: A Research and Information Guide (Routledge Publishers 2006), Bebop to Cool: Context, Ideology, and Musical Identity (Praeger Publishers, 2003; Named a Choice Outstanding Academic Title of 2004), California Soul: Music of African Americans in the West (co-edited with Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje, University of California Press, 1998), Jazz Research and Performance Materials: A Select Annotated Bibliography (Garland Publishers, 1995), and Jazz Reference and Research Materials (Garland Publishers, 1981). He has also published numerous articles, encyclopedia entries and reprints, and book/record reviews.
