Acclaimed composer, pianist and big band leader Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington was born in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 1899. UCLA jazz combos celebrate the Duke’s birthday with an outdoor, all-Ellington program, followed by birthday cake for everyone in the Fowler’s amphitheater.
