The UCLA Department of Ethnomusicology at the Herb Alpert School of Music is pleased to announce the Mariachi de Uclatlán 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, May 26, 2013. This day-long event features academic paper sessions from 9:30am-12:00pm, mariachi workshops from 1:00pm-3:00pm, a round-table session from 3:30-4:30, culminating with a concert from 5:30pm-7:00pm, featuring: Mariachi Chula Vista, Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando, and Mariachi de Uclatlán. Guest speakers include: Daniel Sheehy (Director, Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage), Mark Fogelquist (mariachi educator), Jonathan Clark (mariachi historian), Russell Rodriguez (mariachi historian) and many more. All events are free; however, registration is required due to space limitations.
