Arturo Márquez is a respected Mexican composer whose works combine Latin American music, jazz, and contemporary music. He has earned many awards and has performed internationally to great critical acclaim. His most well-known piece is Danzón 2, considered by some to be a secondary Mexican national anthem.
During his residency at UCLA, Márquez will present free public lectures and conduct workshops for students in the Department of Ethnomusicology. The UCLA Philharmonia will present a concert featuring his music on April 16.
