On Friday, June 4, legendary violinist and Concertmaster of the LA Opera Orchestra, Stuart Canin will spend six hours at UCLA rehearsing, teaching, and performing with our top students and the internationally acclaimed faculty.

Mr. Canin's distinguished career is second to none, both in quality and versatility.  He is a first American gold medal winner of the Paganini Competition in the 50s, the renowned concertmaster of such orchestras as the San Francisco Symphony and the LA Opera, and has taught at Oberlin, Freiburg (German), and UCSB, has performed a recital in 1945 for Roosevelt, Stalin and Churchill at the Yalta Peace Conference, and is one of the most revered concertmasters of the Hollywood movie industru, having played on hundreds of films, including such classics as the violin solo in the movie Titanic.

Over the years, Stuart Canin has enjoyed his annual master class visits to the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, and students and faculty alike admire his dedication to music, violin, and his great gift of communicating both seriousness and joy in music making and teaching.

On June 4th Stuart will rehearse with UCLA Professor Neal Stulberg in the "Kreutzer" Sonata by Beethoven, and the UCLA string faculty (Professors Antonio Lysy, Guillaume Sutre, Richard O'Neill) and students, in Shostakovich's Prelude and Scherzo for String Octet, provide open lessons to the students, and will teach a public Master Class followed by a performance at Popper Theater.  We hope you will join us for this master class and performance, followed by an informal reception.
