For 2011-12, Gordon Henderson will be serving as Director of the Symphonic Band with our new Band Teaching Assistant Stephen Mason. Stephen, who was here with us at Band Camp last fall, will be beginning work on a Masters degree in Euphonium with Patrick Sheridan. Stephen received his undergraduate degree in Music Education from Mars Hill College in his home state of North Carolina, and he spent this past summer on the brass staff of the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.

The Symphonic Band will perform concerts in Schoenberg Auditorium during the Winter and Spring quarters. During Fall 2011, it will function less formally with no concert scheduled at this time, although that could change. In the Fall, it will be more like a reading band that will give several student conductors a chance to get experience in front of a large ensemble. Music majors will be allowed and encouraged to join, however, this ensemble will satisfy their large performance ensemble requirement only during the Winter and Spring Quarters.

Information about Wind Ensemble auditions is posted on the Wind Ensemble page, but we will not be holding auditions for Symphonic Band this fall. You can simply show up at the first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 27th from 3:00 to 4:40 pm. We will listen to individuals as necessary to make part assignments in some sections.
