Student Opportunity Fund Application
The Student Opportunity Fund of The UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music supports initiatives that contribute outside the classroom to the educational experience of undergraduate and graduate students in the School. The Student Opportunity Fund will support travel by students, alone or in ensembles, for research, performances, classes, camps, and conferences.
The support takes the form of a subsidy for expenses associated with that travel, including airfare, ground transportation, food and lodging, and tuition and registration fees for camps and classes. Recipients of this award will be required to submit original receipts for these expenses to be reimbursed after the trip is complete. Students traveling with ensembles should apply individually; faculty leaders of ensembles should not apply, but direct their ensemble members to apply directly.
IMPORTANT: Please keep in mind that since the awards are by reimbursement only, you must be able to provide proof of all purchases. Therefore, please retain all receipts associated with your travel. Also, purchases must be made by the awardee him/herself for expenses incurred by the awardee only. Expenses paid for by another party, or on behalf of another party, may not be reimbursed.
The amount of the subsidy depends on location:Travel in California – up to $200
Travel in North America – up to $350
Travel to other continents – up to $1000
For the academic year 2012-2013, including Summer 2012, the maximum a student may receive from the Student Opportunity Fund is $1,350. A student may be approved for two international trips, for example, but would only be awarded $350 for the second trip.
Student Opportunity Fund applications should be submitted at least one month in advance of your travel or event. Please complete the form below and submit your application by pressing the "SEND" button at the bottom of the page.
