(Effective Fall 2011) Plan of Study Freshman Sample Plan of Study (pdf) Transfer Sample Plan of Study (pdf) Capstone (Final Project Requirement) Students must fulfill a final project requirement (capstone) through the performance of a senior recital. (Students can perform their own compositions in the recital or have others perform the compositions.) Students must enroll in Ethnomusicology 186 (Senior Recital) during Spring quarter of their senior year. Students must pass a recital permission jury, presenting excerpts from their recital program in front of two faculty members, before they are allowed to stage their recital. Jazz Ensembles and Combos Jazz Ensembles: Ethnomusicology 91T, sections 1-3. Large group jazz ensembles that perform big band jazz repertoire. Emphasis on improvisational and solo performance skills in traditional big band, Latin jazz, and contemporary jazz genres. Jazz Combos: Ethnomusicology 177, sections 1-7. Small group performance of various styles in groups of three to ten musicians. (For details go to Jazz Ensembles and Combos). World Music Performance Ensembles Ethnomusicology 91 A-Z and 161 A-Z. Students have the opportunity to participate in performing organizations representing some 10-12 traditions. These ensembles are taught by masters of each tradition, who are also usually natives of that tradition, giving the student a chance to understand the subtleties of pedagogical technique from someone who has spent a lifetime immersed in the music.
