Designed to expose high school and community college students or interested community members to the repertoire and musical styles of one of four performance traditions:

The music of African Americans - African American gospel singing

The music of China - training on the classical Chinese instruments, including erhu and pipa

The music of Korea - kayagum and samulnori, the world-renowned traditional Korean percussion

The music of Mexico - various styles and techniques used to perform classic mariachi

Students will learn to perform the music of their chosen tradition by studying with a master artist and will be introduced to the history, culture, and music theory of that tradition.

High school students have the option of staying in a UCLA residence hall from Sunday, June 26 through Saturday, July 2 under the supervision of experienced counselors.

The non-residential program is open to students of all ages.
