FRANK HEUSER is head of the Music Education area in the Department of Music.  Most recently, he served on the music education faculty at the University of Oregon, where his duties included undergraduate instruction as well as graduate teaching and research advisement.  His public school teaching experience includes seven years as an instrumental music instruction in schools throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. He was director of instrumental music at East Los Angeles College and taught music education courses at California State University, Los Angeles and at Chapman College. He is active as an adjudicator and clinician in Southern California and is currently low brass instructor during summers at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts.



His research interests include the study of motor control issues in musicians, the understanding and prevention of performance problems in wind players, and issues surrounding music perception and cognition. He has published articles in Medical Problems of Performing Artists and the Southeastern Journal of Music Education, and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Music Teacher Education. His Ph.D. is from the University of Southern California, his M.M. from Yale University, and his B.A. from California State University, Los Angeles.
