Michael Silvers conducts research on the musical traditions of northeastern Brazil, with an interest in music and the natural environment, migration, rurality, place, gender and sexuality, globalization, and capitalism. His writing has appeared in the journals Vibrant: Virtual Brazilian Anthropology and the Yearbook for Traditional Music, and he has presented at regional, national, and international conferences and symposia. He is also a member of the editorial board of the Ecomusicology Newsletter.
