An oral history of the Department of Ethnomusicology’s founding chair, Nazir Ali Jairazbhoy, is now online, as a part of the Oral History Collection of UCLA's Center for Oral History Research.

Jairazbhoy (1927 – 2009) joined the UCLA Department of Music as a full professor in 1975 and in 1988 became the founding chair of the new Department of Ethnomusicology and Systematic Musicology. He was interviewed by his wife and collaborator, Dr. Amy Catlin-Jairazbhoy, over a two-and-a-half-year period. Audio files of the oral history as well as a full written transcript are accessible online. The interview webpage also includes a biographical summary, written by ethnomusicologist Dr. Helen Rees.
