One of the core requirements for the Music Industry Minor is the completion of an industry internship. For more information on the minor requirements, click here. An internship is one quarter in length, and 10 to12 hours per week. The internship must be approved by the supervising faculty.
Course Description Limited to juniors/seniors in Music Industry minor with minimum cumulative 3.0 grade-point average. Internship in supervised setting in community agency or private business. Students meet on regular basis with instructor and provide periodic reports of their experience. May be repeated for maximum of 8 units. Individual contract with supervising faculty member required. Pass/no pass grading.
Procedures for enrolling in MUS IND 195 1. Students must select an internship. For help finding internships, check out the Career Center BruinView or the Community Learning database of community partners on MyUCLA ("Internships" link on left menu). Also, be sure to check out our featured internships listed below. 2. Students initiate enrollment in MUS IND 195 by filling out the Internship Contract, available on MyUCLA (click on Contract Courses under Academic on the left menu). Be sure to choose "Music Industry" for the department. Print the contract and obtain signature approval from a music industry faculty mentor. Students must give or send an Internship Information Sheet to the internship supervisor at the participating company. Once the form has been completed, the site-supervisor or the student should return the form to Shannon Regan Hickman, Assistant to the Director, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, Box 957234, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1657. 4.Students must submit a signed Waiver of Liability form (for off-campus course activities). 5. The 195 contract, internship information sheet, and waiver of liability must be completed and received by the Friday of the first week of classes. When all forms are received, an academic counselor will enroll students in MUS IND 195. 6. Students will meet with their faculty mentor regularly throughout the quarter. At the conclusion of the internship, students are required to submit to the faculty mentor a paper of 10-12 pages in length, detailing the experience. The paper must be turned in and graded before students can receive credit for the internship. This documentation is due no later than Friday of finals week and is retained by the program.

Internships with The GRAMMY Museum are for one semester, and Interns can work up to 20 hours per week.
