Ensemble History: Music and Dance of Greece Ensemble

The Music and Dance of Greece Ensemble was formed during the 1964-65 academic year, when the course Music 45E/Music 145E (Music and Dance of Greece) was offered for the first time.  Sotirois (Sam) Chianis, the director of the ensemble, was a lecturer in the Music Department from 1964-66. When Chianis, who was also a student, completed a Ph.D. dissertation on Greek music and got a job elsewhere, the group ceased to exist.
