Ensemble History: Music of African Americans EnsembleThe Music of Afro-Americans Ensemble (later changed to “The Music of African Americans”) was created in 1971-72 as Music 70S. It ceased to exist during the 1975-76 academic year. It was offered again 1980-81 as an open ensemble led by Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje who was hired by the Music Department in 1979. In 1985-86, the Music of Afro-Americans Ensemble became a permanent course offering, Music 81-91P. Instructors of the ensemble include: Jacqueline Cogdell DjeDje (1980-96); graduate student Kimasi Browne; James Roberson (1997 to the present).
