Audition – Required of all Music Education and Performance applicants.
- Audition in person or submit an audition DVD/CD. Applicants who reside within a 200-mile radius of UCLA are required to audition on campus. All applicants are strongly encouraged to audition in person if at all possible.
- Applicants auditioning in Cello, Clarinet, Flute, French Horn, Piano, Saxophone, Trombone, Trumpet, Voice, Viola, or Violin are required to submit a pre-screening DVD/CD. The pre-screening DVD/CD must be submitted with your supplemental application. Only those applicants selected from the pre-screening evaluation will receive an appointment for an on-campus audition.
Portfolio – Required for Composition applicants.
- Students applying for Composition must submit a portfolio with a minimum of three written scores. All portfolios must be submitted with your supplemental documents. Following a review of all submitted scores, selected students will receive an appointment for an interview/audition with our composition faculty.
Applicants can review supplemental application guidelines and prepare materials in advance of the deadline by downloading the Supplemental Application Worksheet (PDF). Please do not mail any supplemental materials prior to the submission of your University of California application.
Students are accepted into the department based upon evidence of creative talent and academic achievement. A faculty committee recommends admission decisions. Successful candidates will also have met eligibility requirements for the University of California. Freshman applicants are notified in March of their admission status; transfer applicants receive notification in April. REPERTOIRE LISTS
