Faculty Handbook: Student Advising | Print |

OFFICE HOURS

Faculty are expected to have at least two office hours, which should be posted and kept regularly. Office hours should be open to students without prior appointment. Office hours are important for addressing problems related to the course, and also for allowing students to develop personal relationships with faculty.

DEPARTMENTAL (STAFF) ADVISORS

Students sometimes turn to faculty for general advice and guidance on a variety of subjects such as what are useful electives to enhance their career, or how to improve their chances of getting into graduate school. Dispensing this type of informal advice is encouraged and of great assistance to students. However, for specific questions regarding scholarship, major, and degree requirements, faculty should not attempt to answer these questions unless they feel certain they have correct information. Please contact the departmental advisors for assistance in such matters. The advisors listed below serve both the music and ethnomusicology departments.
