R.U. NELSON FUND

The R. U. Nelson lectures shall be presented annually at the University of California Los Angeles, by guest lecturers. Topics for the lectures may include the areas of music theory, musicology, and composition, with emphasis on music of the twentieth century. Whenever possible, the lectures shall be announced in advance and presented for student, faculty, and the community at large. Whenever possible, the lectures shall be published in professional journals, as independent papers, and as monographs, as appropriate. Submission of the lectures for consideration of publication by the University of California Press shall be encouraged. The lectures shall be administered by a committee of three individuals from the University of California at Los Angeles Music Department, including the Chairman of said Music Department, the Chairman of the Council on Historical Musicology, and the Chairman of the Composer's Council. Upon consultation with the faculty of said Music Department, said Committee shall determine the topics for the lectures, and extend invitations to guest lecturer, and the amount of funding available for subsidizing publication of the lectures. In addition to remuneration for lectures, administrative costs, and publication of lecturers, from time to time, fund income may be used to support teaching activities at the University of California at Los Angeles, by guest lecturers, if in the judgment of said committee, sufficient funds income is available, and such additional support would be appropriate to the lectures.

ACADEMIC SENATE GRANTS

Academic Senate (ladder-rank) faculty are eligible for research funding in the following categories: 1) Faculty Research Grants, supporting individual research projects; 2) Faculty Research Travel, funding transportation of Academic Senate members to report the results of original research at meetings of recognized scholarly societies; and 3) Intercampus Exchange Program, supporting travel and subsistence of faculty and advanced graduate students for study and research on other campuses of the University of California.

OFFICE OF INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT (OID) GRANTS

The Office of Instrucional Development's Instructional Improvement Program provides grants to support major faculty, department and college-initiated projects that enhance curricular development and instructional improvement of undergraduate offerings. Services provided are:

Mini-Grant Program:
Mini-grants up to $750.00 per academic year are provided for small-scale projects which improve or enrich existing undergraduate courses. This includes honoraria to distinguished experts visiting undergraduate classes. ($150.00 maximum per visiting speaker.) See Guest Performers/Lecturers in Course Preparation for further information. Instructional Improvement Grants:
This grant program offers larger grants to faculty on an annual basis to encourage and reward faculty creativity and innovation in undergraduate instruction. Applications are due annually on March 15. Special emphases are given to projects which fall within the following general categories:

- Multidisciplinary/interdepartmental courses and programs;

- New or revised programs of study;

- Multi-cultural studies;

- Special honoraria from distinguished visiting experts to reach upper-division courses not formally offered;

- Pilot GE course clusters

- Technology-enhanced instruction.
