From the 1950s to June, 2012, there have been 431 graduate degrees awarded in the fields of ethnomusicology and systematic musicology at UCLA. Of these, 192 were Ph.D. degrees and 239 were M.A. degrees. The first Ph.D. degrees were awarded to Elizabeth May ('58) and William Malm ('59).

The first B.A. degree in ethnomusicology was awarded in 1993. However, students who received a B.A. in music with a specialization in ethnomusicology date to the 1960s. From 1993 to June, 2012, 345 B.A. degrees in ethnomusicology have been awarded.
