Happy New Year!
The year 2007 is shaping up to be an eventful one for ethnomusicology at UCLA. To begin, please remember to meet with your faculty advisor early in the quarter. As I have stated before, members of the department faculty are eager to assist you in making decisions about courses and plans for the future. Therefore, please take advantage of this important resource. Also, do not forget that the department now has a Director of Undergraduate Studies (Professor Tara Browner), and a Director of Graduate Studies (Professor Helen Rees). Do not hesitate to contact them for assistance. See below for their contact information.

In winter 2007, you can look forward to several important activities:
New Searches
1. The department will be interviewing two persons for the permanent Ethnomusicology Archive Librarian position that became vacant when John Vallier left UCLA. As part of the interview process, each candidate will speak on the topic, "What are the important issues
facing sound archives in the 21st century?" This will be followed by a question and answer period.
Since the Archive Librarian is someone with whom you will be closely interacting, I encourage you to take an active role in the process by attending each presentation. As we make final decisions, I welcome your comments about each candidate. See below for the schedule and brief information about each candidate.
