The goal of this course is to carefully examine the multiple cultural influences that exist within the idiom of Jazz and the ramifications of these influences upon the development of Jazz – past and future. This course will also examine the roots of Jazz to understand the essential components of the language of Jazz. There will also be an in-depth examination of cross-cultural elements that come from music of different global traditions, literature, visual arts and other disciplines.
