Music of Korea Ensemble
Syllabus
Course Description:
The Music of Korea series is presented in hopes of educating students on the
Instrumental instruction of Korean music. The students are not required to have previous instrumental experience in either Western or Korean music. This series will be divided into two parts-the lower and upper division instrumental, dance and the percussion section. The series will continue throughout the year and students who choose to continue will advance in their instruction with every quarter. Students are required to have minimum one hour of instruction and are given one hour to practice at their convenience.
*Music of Korea –This section will concentrate on the instruction of the following
Kayagum(12 string), Komungo(6 string), Danso, Daegum(flute), Haegum(fiddle),
A-jeng and Piri
Percussion - This section will concentrate on the instruction of the folk percussion Ensemble; Instruments include: Changgo, Buk, Jing Kkwenggwari.
Dance ---This section will concentrate on the instruction of court & folk dance
Grades
Students will be grade on their attendance, participation, and effort. Each student will be assessed on his or her individual achievement and performance.
There will be optional bonus points offered to students who participate in performance activities. These activities will be announced at later times.
*Remember, it is not expected that students will necessarily be brilliant musicians-and this fact is taken into consideration during the grading process. What in more important is that students reflect a genuine interest in learning, make the effort to participate, and have fun
