Course Description
Preparation: previous experience in composition, Ethnomusicology 11ABC or equivalent. Limited to ethnomusicology majors. Other students may enroll with permission of instructor. Exercises in composition using a variety of Western and non-Western musical systems. Requires final project. P/NP or letter grading.
Goals and Objectives:
Students will learn how to compose musical pieces using forms, idioms, and techniques from different parts of the world. Students will also analyze the pieces of composers who have composed music using elements from world cultures.

Weekly Assignments 70 %
Final Project (Original Composition) 20 %
