Course description:
Imparting Indian classical music: techniques, tradition and culture

Course requirements:
Punctuality, interest in ICM and the sitar, involvement, daily practice

Grading:
Interest, involvement, interaction, improvement

Gamelan and Near East/India Room Rules:

  1. Do not bring food or drink into the Gamelan or Near East/India rooms
  2. Do not move instruments without permission from the ensemble director of the TA
  3. Chairs must be re-stacked at the end of the class
  4. The whole class is expected to participate in the post-class/post-concert clean up
  5. Many of the instruments in the Gamelan and Near East/India rooms are sacred instruments. Please treat them with great care and respect. (To be safe, don’t touch or go near the instruments that you do not use for this class).

The following behaviors are unacceptable and will negatively affect the class participation portion of your grade, at the sole discretion of the instructor:

    • Late arrival to class
    • Leaving before class is over
    • Unnecessary talking and disruptive behavior
    • Eating, chewing gum, doing homework
    • Turn off all cell phones, pagers, and other device
