Dear alumni and friends,

Happy New Year!
The year 2007 is shaping up to be an eventful one for ethnomusicology at UCLA. In winter 2007, several important activities are taking place:

New Position
Effective winter 2007, Anthony Seeger will become the new director of the Ethnomusicology Archive. As you know, Seeger has extensive experience in archiving. Although I have enjoyed by role as director of the Archive, a position I have held since fall 2000, we  look forward to  Seeger assuming this position.

2. The Sixth Annual Korean Music Symposium will take place in early February.

3. A concert, entitled "Eastern Soul: A Concert by Artists from Different Traditions," will be held on Friday, March 2, in Schoenberg Hall at 7:30 PM. In addition to a performance by the Near East Ensemble, several faculty will also perform.

4. Jazz concerts featuring UCLA students will be held on Monday and Tuesday, March 12 and 13, in Schoenberg Hall at 7 PM.

5. T. M. Scruggs, an associate professor at the University of Iowa who specializes in the music of Latin America and the Caribbean, will present a lecture on March 5, 2007. When we have information about the time and location, we will inform you.
