At the conclusion of all auditions, the department’s admissions committee evaluates each applicant and determines who should be recommended for admission. Once approved by the Ethnomusicology faculty, you are reviewed for academic eligibility by the UCLA undergraduate admissions office. Following their review, are you then notified by the undergraduate admissions office of your official and final admission status.
  • Applicants to the Jazz Studies Concentration should be prepared to perform a jazz audition on their primary instrument, in addition to your interview with our Jazz faculty.

Please be sure your e-mail server allows you to receive email from unknown sources such as the University of California, Los Angeles. All audition appointments and subsequent information will be sent by email only.

In reviewing transfer applicants, preference is given to those who have a minimum 3.00 grade-point-average and have completed all of the University and School of the Arts & Architecture General Education Requirements (or IGETC if a California community college transfer). All applicants are accepted to the University on the basis of “work in progress”. Therefore, it is important that any changes in class schedules be approved in advance by UARS.
