How to apply for an emphasis

   
 


Freshmen:

Freshmen must submit application materials to the emphasis of their choice* in the Fall Quarter of their third year in the program.

Transfer students:
Students who enter as transfers must submit application materials to the emphasis of their choice* during Spring Quarter of their first year of training at UCLA.

2008 DEADLINE for submitting emphasis applications:
APRIL 30, 2008

To apply for an emphasis, students must submit:

(1) an Application Coversheet, with the signed approval of a faculty member who is a specialist in the emphasis;

(2) the Statement of Completion, in which the student explains why the emphasis has been selected and how it will help them to reach their career goals;

(3) an up-to-date transcript.

GPA requirement:
Students who select the performance/composition, public ethnomusicology, or scholarly/research emphases must have, at the time of the application, a 3.5 grade-point average in departmental lower division core courses and a cumulative 3.00 GPA (3.25 for scholarly/research).

*PLEASE NOTE: Students who decide on the general world music emphasis do not need to submit an application.
