Woodson, Craig DeVere

Woodson earned both his MA (1973) and Ph.D. (1983) in ethnomusicology from UCLA. His MA thesis, entitled "Solo Jazz Drumming: An Analylyical Study of Improvisation Techniques of Anthony Williams," is an examination of forty-two recorded drum solos performed by the late drummer. Woodson’s Ph.D. dissertation is entitled "The Atumpan Drum in Ashante: A Study of Their Art and Technology." Woodson, who is renown for his ability to make musical instruments out of everyday items, has toured as a music educator with the Kronos Quartet since 1995.
