Olsen, Dale

A graduate of UCLA, Dale Olsen received his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology in 1974. His dissertation is entitled "Music of Shamanism of the Winikina-Warao Indians: Songs for Curing and Other Theurgy." Olsen was the principal flutist in the Philharmonic Orchestra of Chile (1966-68) and in the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra in Chicago (1969). While in Chile, Olsen served in the Peace Corps (1966-68) and Professor of Music at the University of Chile (1966-68). Olsen is currently a Professor and Director of the Ethnomusicology Program at Florida State University in Tallahassee, as well as Director of the University’s Center for Music of the Americas.
