Marcus, Scott (b. 1952)
Scott Marcus received both his MA and Ph.D. in music/ethnomusicology from UCLA. His dissertation entitled "Arab Music Theory in the Modern Period." In addition to his studies at UCLA under Dr. A. Jihad Racy, Marcus studied with a number of main teachers at the two music institutes in Cairo, Egypt (al-Ma`had al-`Ali li-l-Musiqa al-`Arabiyyah and Kulliyat al-Tarbiyyah al-Musiqiyyahs). Scott Marcus is the founder and director of the University of California at Santa Barbara’s Middle Eastern Ensemble and is an associate professor of ethnomusicology at UC Santa Barbara.
