Higgins, Jon Borthwick (b. 1939 – d. 1984)

Jon Borthwick Higgins was both an accomplished singer and a respected scholar. Higgins received his BA in music and history (1962), his MA in musicology (1964), and his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology (1973) from Wesleyan University. His Ph.D. dissertation is entitled "The Music of Bharata Natyam" (1973). Between 1971 and 1978 he was Professor of Music and Associate Dean of Fine Arts at York University in Toronto, Canada. He joined Wesleyan University as the Director of the Center for the Arts and as Professor of Music in 1978.
