Binnington, Doreen

A graduate of the UCLA School of Education, Doreen Binnington completed her dissertation on "The Development of an Interdisciplinary Curriculum Based on an Integration of Ethnomusicology and the Social Studies" (1974). Binnington’s interests include the Inuit of Alaska, elementary education, and the use of ethnomusicology in primary education. Her abstract says, "The curriculum model was applied to an indepth study of a specific locale, Barrow, Alaska.... The field trip was timed to coincide with the Eskimo winter festivities, and resulted in the collection of sound recordings, super 8 film, slides, real objects, and written material." Among her publications are Native People and Explorers of Canada. Doreen Binnington’s new married name is Doreen Bethune-Johnson.
