Bake, Arnold (b. 1899- d. 1963)
Arnold Bake (pronounced BAH-kuh) was born in Holland. In 1949 he was appointed Lecturer in Indian Music at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. Bake mentored many noteworthy students while teaching at SOAS, including Nazir Jairazbhoy. Although his base was England, he and his wife spent many years conducting fieldwork in India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Bake also served as a member on the Executive Board of the International Folk Music Council. He published numerous works on the music of India, including Cri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1948) and The Music of India (1923).
