ABOUT THE ARCHIVE

Founded in 1961, the Ethnomusicology Archive is one of the largest ethnographic audiovisual archives in North America. Its holdings from around the world include nearly 200 unique collections of field recordings and tens of thousands of rare commercial recordings of music, oral traditions, and dance. Strengths include traditional, folk, popular, and art music from Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas. The Archive also collects and preserves the music of the many communities in California.
